”
As I mentioned I’ve been a longtime volunteer with the 1st SHAPE International Sea Scouts (part of British Scouting Overseas). We have almost fully recovered from COVID and are hoping to gain more interest outside of the British and American communities.
We currently have two age groups fully running. The Cubs (age 8-10.5) meet on Tuesdays at 1800-1930 and the Scouts (age 10.5-14) meet on Thursdays at 1900-2030. Both meet upstairs in the Green Gym. It is our hope to also start up Explorers (age 14-18) sometime next year, but our sister group, Sonian Explorers in Waterloo, have been happy to accept our older scouts to
join them (my son included).
Our page on SHAPE2Day is slightly out of date, but the email contacts are correct:
https://www.shape2day.com/…/shape-1st-intl-scouts-group. I am also available if anyone has any questions (joseph.c.monk@gmail.com).
Our program is run in English, but in the past we have had many young people join us that were not fluent and we work hard to make sure they are fully included.
Our program focuses on soft skills, such as teamwork and leadership, as well as practical skills such as cooking, sewing, bicycle repair, map reading, first aid, etc. Of course there is also a heavy focus on camping and outdoor skills, recently our scouts used their pioneering skills to build a free-standing bridge of rope and wooden poles capable of holding their own weight. As sea scouts we also learn about sailing and water safety.
We are also always happy to have any adults with small craft sailing experience join us to help make sure we make the best use out of our boats!

The US also has Boy Scouts of America here that covers all school ages and they are also open to all nationalities. Mr. Mike Marro can provide information on their program if there are interested learning that program.

Joseph Monk
